Miyajima is a remote Japanese island where sacredness and nature come together in a unique and devout culture. The harmony between nature and spirituality is celebrated from the architectural marvels of the Itsukushima Shrine to the introduction of Gagaku music. Miyajima/ Itsukushima translates to ‘island of worship’, from ancient times the island itself was worshipped as a god. Because of many rich cultural, historical, and spiritual elements, Miyajima is cherished as a sacred place and a symbol of Japan’s spiritual heritage.
